He then went to work for another motor shop in Connecticut until he went into the Army in 1943. He was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1946. He went back to his own company and expanded into a new building that he built on Berlin Ave.

The company was incorporated in 1952. In 1962 he moved the Company to a bigger building on Railroad Ave. in Southington.
In 1972, Mr. Piteo Sr., started a second company in the Berlin Ave. location. That was Electro Mechanical Drives. This company also grew and expanded to our current location at 115 Water Street in Southington, which we share with Eddy Electric. We recently renamed Electro Mechanical to New England Drives & Controls, Inc.
Mr. Piteo Sr. went to Wilcox Technical School in his youth and graduated from there with the Electrical background he needed to start his business. He answered his call to serve his country, married after he was discharged, and together with his wife was able to start and build this family business to what it is today. Throughout the years of building his company, he never lost site of his family. He and his wife raised four children. All of his children worked along side of them to help make these companies a success. His son, Edward Jr. ran Eddy Electric until he retired in 1989. His son, Mark Piteo is the current President of both Companies and was instrumental in building Electro Mechanical Drives to the quality company it has become. Daughter Donna worked along side of Ed Jr. at Eddy Electric and currently works in the Sales Dept. at Electro Mechanical. Daughter Pamela works for both companies as Corporate Secretary.
Mr. Edward Piteo, Sr. will always be remembered as a shining example of what hard work and perseverance can accomplish in this country. He might be gone, but his legacy will always be with us. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
